About us

by Denis Duboule
Chairman

This department was founded in 1802, as the 'Institute of zoology' by professors Auguste Pyramus De Candolle and Louis Jurine. For two centuries, the department has been involved in the teaching of fundamental disciplines in life sciences, such as physiology, systematics, endocrinology, genetics and embryology (see the “historique du département”). Nowadays, our department continues to teach a large variety of disciplines, from animal systematics in collaboration with the museum of natural history, to developmental molecular genetics, including molecular phylogeny, protistology and physiology.
